The Advantages and Disadvantages of License Plate Spray

Traffic enforcers go to extreme measures just to make sure that their rules are implemented, especially in highly industrialized countries, and their most recent extreme measure would be the red light camera ticket, or being photographed when you drive through a red light.

However, drivers, as clever and smart as they are, have found quite a few solutions to this. Some live by the phrase, “catch me if you can” and there are also those who are smart enough to use license plate spray; Also known as the anti red light camera spray.

These sprays, much like other stuff nowadays, have their own ancestors. Way back when, before they were invented, people used license plate covers which actually deflect the flash of the light from the cameras making the snapshots taken all white. However, the problem is, traffic enforcers are clever and they were quick to ban these types of covers.

Then came the now poular license plate sprays. Much like the plate covers, it relies on the same mechanism to prevent the license plates of drivers from actually being seen by a camera. The good thing about this is that even with better cameras, they still are quite effective and the snapshots taken would still result in a very unreadable over-exposed shot.

As far as advantages go, there are a lot of benefits to using this hot new invention. Here are some of them:

• It is cheap. The average price is between $19 and $30.
• It’s very easy to use. It works just like spraying paint.
• Its effectiveness is top notch. When applied, it saves you from getting that nuisance of a ticket.
• A single can may be used on up to four license plates.
• Lastly, it’s good for life. No need for retouches. Once you spray it onto the license plate, it’s all done.

However, even with all of its advantages, there are a few hang-ups about these sprays as well, mostly, formulated by skeptics.

• Its effectiveness is still under heavy scrutiny and debate. There’s no concrete proof that it works 100% of the time, though, there is proof that its sales are fast increasing ever since it hit the market.
• It may cause some drivers to feel cocky and may alter their driving behavior. With these sprays, people will disregard the law and just speed their way through red lights, which is a really bad thing to do.
•  There are some issues about it being legal or not. Although, not a single state has a rule that prohibits this, there are a few rules that people say covers the use of license plate sprays, since there is a law that prohibits the use of obstructing the license plates from human view. However, it should be noted that the license plates can still be seen, it’s just that it can’t be photographed
